AML Compliance Due Diligence Associate

We are seeking a career minded, experienced and motivated individual for a full-time position in the Financial Crime Compliance (“FCC”) / Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) department in the Sofia based office.

The AML Compliance Due Diligence Associate (the “Associate”) will be part of a dynamic team responsible for conducting due diligence on new and existing institutional and other third party relationships. The Associate will assist in ensuring that the Firm’s FCC program is implemented and that it complies with its regulatory obligations and appropriately manages and mitigates AML risk. The ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and communicate with all levels of the organisation, including sales, legal and compliance, is critical. 
The Associate must demonstrate integrity, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in an environment with strict deadlines, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain the strict confidentiality with respect to sensitive information.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for vetting individuals and/or entities with whom the company enters into relationships, including but not limited to Institutional Clients, Referring Brokers, and Vendors
  • Perform KYC and customer due diligence
  • Document all vetting requests received and ensure the appropriate status and level of due diligence is assigned
  • Respond to inquiries from other departments in a timely manner
  • Escalate relevant matters to FCC Management
  • Identify and investigate potential risks to the Firm within area of responsibility and make recommendations based on findings
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of AML/CTF regulatory requirements, developments, sector-specific regulations and industry best practices
  • Be able to apply the legislation and regulations as set out in the Firm’s Financial Crime Compliance Framework (i.e. policies, controls, guidelines, and procedures) and its’ FCC Programme
  • Review activity for adherence to the FCC Programme, as part of the client onboarding process and ongoing monitoring
  • Develop AML knowledge base to serve as a subject matter expert to the organisation, providing guidance and support
  • Conduct online and regulatory research for information related to FCC, AML, EU AML Regulations, JMLSG and other EU, UK and global regulations
  • Assist with the documentation and updating of AML and KYC policies, controls, guidelines and procedures, which form the Financial Crime programme
  • Prepare and publish management information reporting
  • Promote a culture compliance awareness and appropriate behaviours and actions throughout the business
  • Perform other assignments and tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Working knowledge of global Financial Crime Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering and Due Diligence requirements
  • Strong research, analytical, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate with clarity and purpose both in written and verbal formats
  • Excellent organisational skills and self-motivated with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Effective decision-making abilities
  • Ability to adapt to new changes and challenges
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to work with other departments and build strong working relationships
  • Team player and able to prioritize in a fast moving, constantly changing environment
  • All candidates must be able to maintain confidentiality, determine priorities and follow up in a timely fashion
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • High computer competency with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel), the Internet, including online research, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Eager to learn Compliance and AML regulatory obligations
  • Quick learner and able to adapt to changing workload demands
  • University degree required
  • Prior experience in Legal, Compliance or Financial Services business
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, FCC, AML/CTF and compliance regulations and requirements
  • Legal research and regulatory research skills
  • Knowledge of financial markets, commodities, forex and on-line trading platforms is a plus
  • Ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of foreign languages (other than English) is a plus
